Pedroia is the Anti-Cano

Reading this morning how Yankees manager Joe Girardi pulled 2B Robinson Cano for not hustling in the fourth inning of Sunday’s game.  Perfectly encapsualted with the New York Post headline “Cano Doesn’t Get Meaning of Hustle.”  There’s no way to think about this as the latest contrast in the ongoing Hatfield & McCoys rivalry that is Red Sox-Yankees.

Simply put, can you ever imagine Pedroia being pulled from a game for lack of hustle?  Not a chance.

For the Yankees…you have Cano, a guy with an endless amount of physical gifts and abilities.  How many times has the term “will one day win a batting title” been in the same sentence as the name Robinson Cano?

And for the Red Sox, there’s Dustin Pedroia.  He’s had to earn everything.  If you list his skills in order of strengths, “hustle” and “determination” are near the top, if not at the very top.  That batting title Cano will one day get?  Pedroia may get it this year.

Do these guys represent the future path of each organization and also, the rivaly?  If so, the Yankees have a lot to worry about.
