Game 2 ALDS Quick Thoughts

Not too much time to write, but a few thoughts looking back on Game 2 and ahead to Game 1

This was a game I thought we were destined to lose.  For 4 innings or so, Dice-K was doing it right.  Getting leadoff guys out and keeping Figgins off base in front of the heart of the Angels lineup – which continued to hit single after single after single.  Then he imploded in the 5th.  Have no idea why he can’t just throw strikes with a a 4 run lead.  Walks were the only way the Angels were getting back in the game and that’s exactly what happened.  Dice-K’s ill informed strategy was also picked up by Justin Masteron.  Overall, I’m still in disbeleif that the sox bullpen had to get 12 outs to win and that it actuallyh worked.  Okie did an admirable job.

When Tito brings in Paps with no one out in the 8th, I thought it was a mistake as the game seemed destined for extras and using Paps so soon seemed like an error (epsecially since Soscia already had K Rod in the game).  But that’s why Francona is the manager and not me.  Maybe he knew JD Drew was going to play playoff hero again.  JD continues to use key October blasts to show why he deserves to be the highest Sox player.  (Yes, Drew as highest paid Sox player is a stunning fact)

By the way, we’ve taken two in Anaheim and Pedroia hasn’t gotten a hit yet.  How long will that last?  I bet it lasts until the bottom of the first in today’s game.  I predict a 3 hit game from Pedroia and a solid 7 inning outing from Beckett.  Not a lights out outing Beckett, but enough to hand it off to the bullpen in the 8th.  Look for the offense to light up the scoreboard.

Obviously, Sox couldn’t be in a better position.  Coming home to Fenway with a 2-0 series lead and Beckett taking the mound.  Time to put a nail in the coffin.
